Where is FAST NUCES, Karachi campus located?

What is DigitalEyez?
DigitalEyez is a media centric event of NUCES FAST. The event is scheduled to take place on the 06th of December, 2010.

How many sub competitions does DigitalEyez comprise?

There are EIGHT All-Pakistan inter-university competitions, namely:

  1. Photography
  2. Short Movie
  3. Animation
  4. Web Design
  5. Xpressions (Sketching & Painting)
  6. Battle of the Blogs
  7. Poster Design
  8. Quick AD Shootout

What are the eligibility criteria for entering this event?
You are eligible to enter the contest if you satisfy the following conditions

  • You are enrolled at a recognized school/university in Pakistan.
  • You are not in any way affiliated with the organizing committee of this event.
  • You have paid the registration fee.
  • You affirm that you agree to the terms, conditions, obligations, and affirmations set forth in this document and to abide by it.

Failing to meet any of the above criteria will render you ineligible to participate.

What is the registration fee?
The registration fee is Rs.600 per student, per competition.

How do I register for the event?

  • Register for the competitions(s) at the DigitalEyez Web Portal (http://www.digitaleyez.pk), under the tab 'Participant Registration'.
  • After registering, an account will be created for you and your registration status will be pending. You will not be able to submit entries on this account until fee payment.
  • To submit the registration fee (plus accommodation fee, if applicable), the participant must mail us a package containing the following:
    • Bank Draft payable to 'BCCI-FAST', with the stated amount being the sum of all due fees.
    • An accompanying letter with a list of participants/teams with their names and account ids for which the payment is being made.

  • Upon receipt of payment in full, you will be notified and your account status will be changed to registered. You will now be able to submit entries.
What is the accommodation fee?

Accommodations are subject to availability and on first-come-first-serve basis.

Yes.

Where do I submit the images for the Photography competition?
Submission of images is done through the Web Portal – www.DigitalEyez.pk . Each participant may enter up to 2 images.

What is the deadline for the submission of work, through the web portal?
The deadline for the submission is 22nd of December, 2010.

What are the image specifications for the Photography competition?

  • Only digital images may be submitted. Images taken through an analog camera and then scanned will not be considered.
  • Images should have a resolution of 1024 x 768 px.
  • Image format must be JPEG.
  • File size must be less than 1 MB.
  • Each image must have an appropriate caption limited to 200 characters.

To what extent can I modify the original image, shot from the camera?

Prohibited Image modifications:

  • Borders and frames.
  • Watermarks, signatures, or copyright notices. Winning participants will be accredited for their pictures.
  • Addition/replacement of elements in the image.
  • Selective editing (e.g.; applying a filter to a region).

 

Permitted Modifications:

  • Crop/resize/rotate is permitted as long as the image satisfies the required criteria.
  • Red-eye removal and spot editing
  • Leveling and Saturating.
  • Use of filters to sharpen, soften, blur, or remove noise.
  • Use of corrective functions to improve the natural appearance of the image, such as levels, contrast, brightness, curves, intensity, tone, hue, saturation, lightness, value, color balance, and tint.

What are the judging criteria for the Photography competition?
Submitted images will be judged on the following criteria:

  • Creativity and originality.
  • Photographic quality and technical expertise.
  • Effectiveness in depicting competition theme.
  • Instant impact.

The verdict of the judges will be final.

Can I participate in the form of a team of more than one person, for the photography competition?
No.

Can I participate in the form of a team of more than one person, for the Short Film and Animation competition?
Yes. Up to 4 students may register as a team.

Where do I submit my work for the Short Movie and Animation competition?
Submission of short film/animation can be done using either of the following methods

  1. Send the film CD to FAST-NUCES via snail mail (Entries will not be returned)

OR

  1. Upload the movie file to your account on our web portal www.digitaleyez.pk

Each team is restricted to 1 submission.

What are the Short Movie specifications?

  • Only digital films may be submitted.
  • Length should be between 90 seconds to 6 minutes for both short films and animations, including beginning and ending credits.
  • The Film must be submitted in one of the following formats: .flv, QuickTime format, MPEG-1, 2 and 4, WMV (Windows Media), Real Player format, .avi. When exporting, please make sure your compressed version is good enough quality for us to judge it. As a rough guideline, it should not be smaller than 320x240 pixels, and not less than 15fps.

Any software/codec needed should be explicitly requested. In case of unavailability of a specific software, the requesting team will be informed prior to the competition.
What are the judging criteria for Short Film and Animation competition?
Submitted films will be judged on the following criteria:

  • Creativity and originality.
  • Filming quality and technical expertise.
  • Conforming to film specifications.
  • Camera positioning.
  • Use of special effects.
  • Instant impact.

The verdict of the judges will be final.

Can I participate in the form of a team of more than one person, for the Web Design competition?
No.

What are the Web Design specifications?

  • Web design must be built to run within a browser.
  • Technologies such as html, Flash, Java script, style sheets, and applets are allowed.
  • Server-side programming code such as PHP, Perl, ASP, Java, and CGI, are NOT allowed.
  • Web designs must display correctly on at least Internet Explorer 6 and Mozilla Firefox 2.0.
  • Given design should be free of copyright violations (Use of unauthorized images etc).
  • All aspects of the design must be displayed on the index page, and links should not redirect to any page outside.

What will be the available tools for Web Design?

  • Adobe Dreamweaver
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Adobe Flash
  • Microsoft Frontpage

What are the judging criteria for Web Design competition?
Submitted web designs will be judged on the following criteria:

  • Creativity and originality.
  • Quality and technical expertise.
  • Placement of elements.
  • Effectiveness of color schemes used.
  • Instant impact.

The verdict of the judges will be final.

What is Xpressions?
Xpressions is a sketching & painting competition organized by The Literary Club of FAST-NUCES Karachi. Get ready to xpress yourself in a splash of colors. Unleash your inner Da Vinci and let your hands glide. Let the passion of your every stroke bring the canvas to life as your creation reaches out and touches the very soul!

What is the participation criterion for Xpressions (Sketching and Painting Contest)?

  • Participants may work individually or as a team.
  • Each team can have a maximum of two participants. The other participant can act as the subject as well.
  • An institution can be represented by a maximum of 5 teams.

What are the rules and regulations for Xpressions?

  • Participants may use any material they like and create work of any dimension so long as the artwork is done on a traditional canvas or paper.
  • Participants must choose one of the fifteen songs (will be proposed within 2 days) as an underlying theme for their piece.
  • Participants have to use creativity and imagination or a live subject/ still life to complete their work of art. Copying from a picture brought into the arena will result in disqualification of both the participant and the art work.
  • Participants must refrain from portraying nudity or any obscenity.
  • The Literary Club will provide canvasses, paint brushes, charcoals and oil paints as well as basic materials such as pencils, erasers, etc. Any unconventional material will have to be arranged for by the participants themselves.
  • The Literary Club will provide participants with canvasses or paper of the size they require at the commencement of competition. Three hours have been allotted to complete the artwork. After the allotted time, artwork will be collected and judged.

Will Battle of the Blogs be an on-the-spot competition?
Yes.
Will Poster Design be an on-the-spot competition?
Yes.
Will Quick AD Shootout be an on-the-spot competition?
Yes.
